Henley Royal Regatta - Strong Stream warnings

[ QUOTE ]
Welcome Angela. Expect to become the agony aunt to whom we trot out our troubles:-)
Just some thoughts, .....
Oh, and we'll gripe and whinge too:-)

You've said what I was thinking; very courageous of the EA to stick it's head up above the parapets and identify itself.
From Angela's perspective she has a ready and willing web-site requirements/design team at her fingertips (but can we all agree!!!) but she doesn't have to pay us!!!

Hi Angela , welcome to the forum .

The river conditions can change rapidly and we haven't got a system set up yet where we can maintain an up to date list of locks/boards on the website.

Please feel free to copy and paste my list onto your website and EDIT it daily with information given to your office by those nice men and women that work the locks all day looking at the condition of the river .

TEDDINGTON .....It's running a little bit fast .

MOLESEY ...... Fast but not as fast as Teddington.

SUNBURY ...... Slow here , but then i know what i'm doing.

Welcome Angela, it's good to see the EA responding how wewould like them to. I hope you will appreciate the amount of help you can get from this group.

Thanks for all the welcomes! I appreciate that this is a two way thing - it's very useful to have comments from people using the thames.

Laugh; I nearly... and SWMBO too

Trying to plan a trip up river now for a week. Had to cancel our downriver foray to Hampton Court, now going upriver (hopefully)

Rang flood line at 14:45 (0845 988 11188 (wait) 1 (wait) 011131). All good stuff:-

Red's for

Osney - nasty head weir
Clifton - nasty eddy at lock tail
Whitchurch - long weir at head sucks you over as you access the layby
[/list]
All other locks above Boveney - yellow. If it tiddles today, could go to Red in places.

For Henley lovers (and poor Rowers - must have some sympathy here) if it blows and rains EA will close the river..

For the fireworks - you may not moor to the booms.

This is what really made me larff:-

Boaters are advised if they want to see the fireworks, they should walk....

Probably drafted by some office wallah who has never seem the annual mêlée of boats or their numbers but-
What the Blue Blazes are we supposed to do with some 300+ boats which would normally have moored????

"Dunno Guv - it's not my call, all we do is tell you what not to do"
"I'm only the messenger" etc etc.

You must admit it's so easy for Authority to put it's foot in it; quite innocently.

The "EA will not be allowing any boaters to moor on the rowing course beams, as traditionally happens" Emeail/letter dated 5th July.
No comment regarding the Music Festival yet.

Welcome, Angela. Hope you don't mind the occasional strong opinion! Your involvement will be much valued. I had someone from the EA pick up on one of my posts some months ago and he was a great help.

p.s. Is anyone worrying about the fallen tree blocking the channel at the back of Church Island? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
