Henley rowing & reds?

Given the state of the river and the likelihood it will all be red in 48 hrs or less, plus more rain forecast.....

What happens to rowing regattas at Henley?

Do they go ahead given that its a long straight and all will have the same handicap?

Do they get pulled because of the risk of floating hazards?

Is there a big fishing net/trap to limit the flow of hazards in the racing lane?

As you can see I'm completely ignorant of these things... interested to understand better....

Stiff upper lip old chap, NOTHING is allowed to prevent the Sport. Part of The Season doncha know.
IIRC rowing has continued despite Yellow Boards - can't remember about Red's. It's not been unknown for a judicious bit of weir management to smooth the waves...

No, 'cos the rowers are insulated from the hoi-polloi and greater unwashed (aka boaters) by wooden booms at either side of the course. Is there a big fishing net/trap to limit the flow of hazards in the racing lane?
See above, and there are marshals at either end of the course to deflect any foreign bodies of whatever nature

Ah, the Joys of Henley week, much fun on the water.
Particularly on the Saturday. Chentlemen's slipper launches parading up and down owners proudly wearing their boaters and blazers; sipping the old champers. Going round and round twixt Henley Bridge and the Management College. All sorts of other craft doing likewise, slowly.

Complete mayhem. As most of the boats only come out once a year for this event (and the following Week's Festival); nobody knows how to navigate - or gives a jot.

Time was when on the Saturday you could moor to the booms and watch a Fireworks display - but that's long gone - no money.

SO get your boat fixed out. Lots of extra fenders and join in the fun, come hell or possibly - high water.

Oh Gawd....repairs......I bl***dy well hope its done by then :-(

Last year was my first experience of Henley.......first went up on the Friday and discovered it really by accident......then went back for the Saturday......and the Sunday......AB FAB!


Thanks for the feeback on my questions......really wasnt sure but delighted to see stiff upper lip prevailing: hopefully it gives us an advantage of the yank teams who will no doubt only be used to perfect conditions if their ski resort management is anything to go by
