We often see posted on here pictures of events happening on the coast but not so many from the Thames, so I thought I'd put up a few pictures from my trip to the Henley Music Festival last weekend. Apologies for the graininess of the pictures but they were taken with my phone and the earliest was taken about 2200h so not much light around.

We had managed to get ourselves a good mooring on the floating mid river booms that mark out the regatta course and were just behind the main stage.

One of the poles that hold the booms in place had come loose, leaving our raft of two boats and a (dislodged) boom drifting out into the channel. Some hasty work in the dingy with a kedge anchor and some rope, with assistance from an EA launch and we soon had ourselves secured. Had a number of boats throughtout the night attempt to moor to the warning tape the EA had put in place to mark the rope they were using to keep the remaining booms in place.

The small boat area where if you have a dingy or other small boat you can moor right alongside the stage. The crane in the background is a leftover from the previous night when there was an acrobatic show from what can best be described as a giant hanging christmas tree decoration.

Those who can't find a suitable spot on the booms resort to cruising up one side of the moored boats and down the other all night to soak up the atmosphere - it can get very busy out there espicially when you allow for the fact its dark and very narrow!

Status Quo were playing on Sunday night and although you couldn't actually see them from a boat on the booms you certainly could hear them and all for free. They arrived by boat and you can just see an EA launch keeping their exit clear on the left of the picture.

The blue cone lit up in the middle here was some sort of inflatable / bouncy castle affair and their were a pair of acrobats performing on it most of the evening - looked more enjoyable for them than it was for the crowd.

Well worth the trip up for the weekend if you are in the area.

Did that a few times when I had the boat on the Thames at Wargrave. Excellent fun, and more enjoyable in many ways than being on shore in the crowd, even though you couldn't see the stage.

I have to say the festival and indeed the regatta one some of the finest moments of my life.
I was fortunate to be lent a very large grand banks looking craft and often met up with five or 6 boats each year full of under 18 yeaR OLDS namely very large princesses and Fairlines enjoying two weeks of sheer joy. Having countless warnings from the NRA for drinking to much even though we cleared henley bridge by 2 inches and never smacked it once unlike several other boats we used to meet each year. If club 1830 sold holidays to this event it wold beat Ibiza hands down year on year. Did you happen to meet a bunch of Welsh TV make up artists by the way, they have been going since the early 1990's and have the claim to fame of sleeping with the entire German rowing team in 98

I see you had Australia's Possum moored ahead of you. How did you manage to keep him off your boat and being forced to listen to his fairy stories while he drank you dry?

Re: Australia\'s Possum

Well spotted Byron. Note the big gap between him and us and the lack of a dingy on his part...Actually, he seemed happy to invade the boat that rafted alongside him and drink all their booze.

Seems he has quite a reputation on the river and he always seems to be around for the festival, I was moored not far from him last year too.
