Henley Bridge lights

I agree it's quite nice but why did this artist feel the god given right to do it without asking. What next a neon phallus outside Leander?

The council are probably just miffed because they're not making any money out of it.
I like the look of it. It's a lot nicer than the blue blinding lights on Kingston Bridge

"They are attached with electrical tape and a soft putty"

So they will fall off and be hanging in the navigation after this weekends cold weather storm
That depends how it was done, if the cable was worked into the gaps. Windows don't fall out when there's a frost.
Certainly preferable to cable clips banged in with masonary nails,

Dead handy after Henley music festival {insert name of ex star} evening at festival, after dropping off boat guests from boat moored on booms after a few bevvies....

:encouragement:

It's a Grade one listed structure and only now do the council notice that there is something amiss?
They weren't put up in a couple of hours. Did nobody from the council notice that there was some activity on the bridge?
Idiots.
I'm more intrigued how he got them there without proper fixings.
BTW I think they look great. Although reindeer and blow up Santas may be a step too far...

Despite the lack of planning and listed building consents affecting a G1 structure, the mayor supports the idea and two local high profile businesses have, allegedly, assisted with the putting up of the lights. Anarchy in Henley on Thames? Oo err. I'm sure the stewards at HRR will exercise their authority and get them removed by the town council.

I think the people who did this discussed beforehand with the Town Council, and believed they had approval. We have Town, district & County Councils, and it's OCC who are saying they need to be removed.

But the picture shows what a rubbish installation the lights are. Just laid along the stones and taped in place. It might be a nice effect but its an awful implementation

I think the tape was temporary to hold the wires into the putty until that had set hard, it has just been left in place. But yes still very poor if it is to be permanent.
I assume the intention was to demonstrate how the bridge could be lit and a better installation done later. All a bit rogue but sometimes that's the only way to get things to happen.

Love the fact that the article claims that this boat did that damage to the bridge! That was done by a brand new Dutch barge ages ago IIRC!

I think we've had instances of two dutch barge types hitting the bridge in recent years. I can't understand what is going on in the Henley Herald report unless a strong current had the boat held against the bridge structure.
