My sterngear (bronze prop and stainless shaft) protection had totally disappeared well before the end of last season and there were handsome barnacles instead.
If you have used Eco prop spray successfully ( still there at the end of the season ) can you advise whether you did so over Hempel Prop Primer spray or another primer.
thanks in advance.

+1 for Hammerite Special Metals Primer. Unfortunately the AF I put on top will have gone before the end of the season. I was going to try a hard boot top type this year but ran out of time to get to the chandlers, so 4 coats of a self polishing Hempel it is (as I have a large tub in stock).

Thanks for responding..
Agreed that Hammerite SM primer has excellent adhesion but unfortunately it has no A/F properties.
Tempting alternative is VELOX which has been shown to have a good bond to the Hammerite SMP which I do use for other purposes and is substantially there as a base ,if well polished...

My experience with Hammerite plus Velox has been excellent, recorded here Propeller antifouling with Velox
However, this has all been in Mediterranean Greece, for which it was formulated. I have read that some UK users were less than happy with Velox, although it is known that their own primer is difficult to use. I am not aware of the precise cause of these dissatisfactions.

I've used Velox primer on a bronze Darglow propellor. Reasonable adhesion, but not perfect. A friend had good results with the same primer. Meticulous preparation is key as usual - keying the surface and ensuring absolutely no grease remains (including grease from fingers touching the propellor).

Hammerite seems to be far less particular. I have used it on a wide variety of surfaces including galvanised garage doors, my aluminium radar scanner base, bronze propeller and brass P-bracket, never need any special precautions.

I can see various old reports/threads where people have used the Hempel primer and the Hempel Eco prop .No one has given this a resounding shout out here on receent experience of the full system. As I would be faced with removing what remains a good coat of hammerite SMP, preparation and buying a new spray of the hempel primer and a new ECO Prop spray I might as well continue with the Hammerite and try the Velox of which 250ml will do the job as its a very short length of shaft plus a 2 blade prop.
Thanks all for adding your own methods.
