I used red Cruising Performer antifouling last season and it worked really well, but I had trouble applying it. In even the slightest breath of air thin filaments of the stuff would fly off the paint roller and adhere to everything nearby - my topsides, other boats, even my car.
Has anyone else had this problem, and if so did they find an answer to it?
I don't particularly want to change brands next season as I have an unopened can left, but if I can't find an answer I may have to in the interets of boatyard harmony!!
Any answers?

Familiar with the problem. Five top tips.

1) Don't move the roller too quickly.
2) Use the roller on the end of an extension pole - that way stuff that flicks off doesn't get to you (and a pole helps those with dodgy backs, less bending and stooping).
3) Don't paint on a windy day.
4) Boiler suit.
5) Park your car upwind!

Now Coppercoated so, fingers x'd, no more nonsense with high priced toxic paint flying about.

Interesting I used Hemple Tiger this April and had exactly the same experince with the wisps of paint landing everywhere, including the just painted surface, and the van. Even with no wind it seemed to float a surprising distance. I thought it was my lack of experience with the gastly stuff. I used small rollers !

Sorry not too helpful.

I would like to get away from this painting so will see what the bank balance looks like for a change to Coppercoat :-)

Moonshine

I too had the same problem even when using the small rollers. I wonder if warming up the paint would help it be a little less tacky as it didn't happen the year before last.

I find it worst if the roller is moved back and forth over an already painted area. I tend to do this if I'm trying to eke out the paint. Quick application of a generous coat seems the best avoidance tactic
