As you will have noticed from a recent post, one can obtain a considerable advantage by employing a certain long thin central european when sailing down wind.

My question, which arises from a purely hypothetical (of course) situation, is this...

Two identical vessels (other than for one having a nice shiny new clean rudder) have an unexpected meeting at sea and decide to undertake a down wind passage in the spirit of friendly competition. One vessel has the services of the aforementioned central european on board the other doesn't.

Is "Skipper A", who shall remain anonymous in order that no shame is brought upon his Caledonian fellows, acting in a moral and upright manner when he employs this furriner to gain a slight speed advantage over his comrade, thus causing "Skipper B" to use all of his guile and undisputed skill in order to redress the balance, resulting in "Skipper B" suffering a great loss of hair, from already depleted reserves, as I result of cronic cranial overheating through excessive use of mental capacity?

Your considered comments on this hypothetical situation and uninhibited condemnation of the low life "Skipper A" would be greatly appreciated.

erm .. this is absolutely dreadfull whatever next .. bet the bugger would have flown a spinnaker if he had'nt had a splitting hangover.. the lowlife should have dragged a dinghy behind to even things up ..

The b*****d was using his dinghy as an additional sail until it fell over board and his hangover prevented him from recovering it. Furthermore the said lowlife came aboard the other vessel during the latter parts of the day and drank copious quantities of "Becks" for medicinal purposes.

You will appreciate that this is only an hypothetical outcome.

What, exactly has this to do with a southern part of the UK?

This hypothetical situation could easily have occured in the beautiful waters of Southern England, over a typically peaceful Bank Holiday.

Ethics!!!!

Sorry. Thought you were talking about something else there.

Re: Ethics!!!!

Sorry for the confusion, to the best of my knowledge there were no Southern English persons involved in this hypothetical situation. /forums/images/icons/smile.gif
