As a way of saying thanks, I'd thought I would share our experience last week in Cherbourg.
We were having electrical problems - and eventually traced the problem down to a poor connection - the eye terminal at the end of one of the HT leads had never been attached properly.
We were in Cherbourg, and visited the chandlery at the marina hoping to buy a screw clamp terminal. The chandlery didn't have the fitting we wanted, but the chap offered to solder up the existing one for us. FREE OF CHARGE. No trouble, very friendly, great service!!!

well done them but where was your soldering iron`s 240v & 12v

When sorting the junk on board recently I came across my ancient copper heat-up-on-a-gasring soldering iron and wondered why it was on the boat. Now I remember why!

(Amazingly, I also built my first ever valve radio with it when I was about 10 years old)

I did have a 12v soldering iron briefly.

It was rubbish.

Now have a gas one - much better. Rewired one boat with it, will be re-wiring another this winter, and done innumerable smaller jobs in between. Now on my third big can of refill gas for it.
