I have just had my engine and leg serviced and during the run up following a misfire was identified - on further inspection (and cost:disgust:) it was identified that the head (no3 inlet port) was corroded/ rotted through so its scrap. Now here's the hard part - engine is an OMC 2.5 unit form about 1988. The rest of the boat is fine and I am loathe to sell it as a 'project' BUT, at the same time its not worth chucking a new engine and leg in. If anyone has a head knocking around their garage/shed/kitchen then I would really appreciate hearing from you !

Sorry to say but that's just about worthless now. You may get lucky somewhere, but I would get shot of the motor and leg as parts on e-bay. With that you could glass the transom and fit an outboard. If you want to keep the boat, that is possibly the most economical way.

Having had a quick look on the internet, there are quite a few used heads on ebay (stateside though). However, they advertise them as mecruiser heads too so must be able to find a used head in the uk if you know the mercruiser part number.

Its most likely a GM sourced engine so should get a head as merc used the same engine
Although omc did use some ford engines either way if you cant find one in the uk you should find one in the us and shipping isnt that bad
You could try Hank at american marine imports (something like that google it) they do quite a bit of omc stuff and should know what the base engine is
