Help working out distance please

I'm hoping to collect my new to me boat on Saturday, hayling island to Weymouth.

I'm just working out distances, my paper chart covers up to Nash point! Could someone tell me the rough distance from Nash point to hayling island ( northney to be precise ) please

The easiest way to get it close enough is to measure on google maps, then multiply the distance in miles by 1.16 to give nautical miles.

You can put points in the map and it will be accurate enough for planning

I think Statute miles should be multiplied by .868976 to get to Nautical miles.

Or download Google Earth, choose the measuring tool, select "Nautical Miles" as the units, then select "Path" and plot your course.

Doh. I meant DIVIDE by 1.16

Though I think the accepted international NM is actually 1.15 but anyway it will be close enough

I think the sea is always wet - but not always flat.

Granted it's not going to be the nicest day weather wise!

The boat has been ready for me to collect for 6 weeks now, just before the boat was ready I was rushed into hospital with ap perforated bowel. I'm now recovered butMy Co pilot is away on holiday from next weekend for 2 weeks so it's a now or never scenario!

Plus I'm getting fed up with paying mdl storage fees alongside my mooring fees!

A SSW F5...I would not do that in my Targa 33

Past Poole (Jurassic coast - St Alban's Head etc) is quite a treacherous bit of water in the wrong wind and tide. I'd hate to be doing it to a schedule on a small boat!

+1 waiting another 2 weeks would be nothing compared to the weather you might experience going past St Albans in the wrong weather conditions.

A statute mile is 5280 feet and a nautical mile is approx 6076 feet so for any given distance there will be fewer nautical miles than statute miles. To convert statute miles to nautical miles divide by 1.15.

I don't know if you realise that my screen shot was Navionics.

I downloaded an update from them today and they've taken away the weather arrows that I found useful.

Weather is now Navionics +

Not impressed.

Interesting. If you believe Reeds it would be 47nm from Chichester Bar to St Alban's Head and then 21 nm Weymouth to St Alban's Head. Add in the 5ish nm in total to get you from Chichester Bar to Northney and to the entrance of Weymouth (from further up in the harbour) and that comes out at 73nm.

But, having also done it with waypoints on the Navionics WebApp, I'm inclined to agree a value nearer Bav34's. I can't do a limbo under the bridge from Langstone onto Hayling Island, so I did mine coming out through the entrance to Chichester Hbr, and came up with 65nm, or thereabouts.
