Help with running main halyard Swift 18

Today I have been playing with the routes for the halyard and topping lift. I now have the black/yellow line as halyard and the blue as topping lift. I have re routed the blue line out of a higher recess more towards the back of the mast - it is now coming straight down out of the mast recess so it should stop chaffing. I will change this for 8mm line.

I was thinking of mounting some Barton blocks/pulleys on the deck, tight into the mast base (the lime green circles). This would keep the lines nice and low to the deck.

What is everyone's thoughts on this? I'm new to this so I do wonder if there is better way

I feel it would be nice to operate these two lines from the cockpit
( I know there should be a pulley at B. I borrowed it to try it out at A.

Thanks, Chris.

I am not sure what make your mast is but it could possibly be Z spars?

They do a plastic insert where your halyard exits the mast which would prevent chafing. It is basically a plastic surround with a nib that holds one end in place with a rivet the other end. The technical term for them is a "Delrin Exit Slot". They come in different sizes so you would have to check the size you need. Not sure if it would fit if its a different make but worth a phone call - I have always found them very helpful and they may be able to point you in the right direction. Contact Us | Zspars
Your idea of mounting some blocks at the base of the mast shown in your photo would be a far better set up using a similar system to that shown by northwind. You could then put a Barton deck organiser at the side of the cockpit hatch which would direct halyards etc back to clutches next to the cockpit.

That arrangement in the 2 pictures looks fine. I would try to get the pulleys a little closer to the mast to minimise direction change at the slot. (shorter attachment shackles. Re topping lift. I have always just had a fixed topping lift. ie a bit of rope attached to the top of the mast with a snap shackle on bottom. I only use it for raising and furling the main sail. So not adjustable. I disconnect and tie it to the back stay when sailing. You might like to try it. ol'will
