Hello, i know nothing zero about boats, and have purchased a wooden boat to sit by my pond (sorry if you are tut tutting). It has a manufacturers plate inside (but company doesnt exist anymore) no engine. I know the last place it was on the water, nothing else. I am generally curious and would like to know more - where can i start? Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the forums, you'll hopefully find a lot of help here.

Please give us a brief description, dimensions and whatever's on the builder's plaque, and what sort of water she was last on - mid -Atlantic salt water or freshwater canal / lake / pond ?!

A photo is really essential; you can do this via something like Photobucket, or the quick way is to click on the ' pin cushion ' icon 3rd in from right, select the image from your computer.

Ok the plate says - cresford yacht and launch company
Frogmore green
Nr kingsbridge
S devon.
Thats it, cant see any numbers or anything.
I think its 26ft
Ill pop out and take a pic this aft.
I was told the last time it was on water was at south queensferry (forth bridge).

For pics - it says i dont have permission for attachments. Its also taking ages to update the thread - via moderator.

a1154,

( not anything to do with the P1154 aircraft project by any chance ? ) - the initial delays on joining are a pain but should hopefully soon go.

I don't think you've even mentioned if she is a sail or motor type, open or decked / cabin, yet ?

Ooo thanks for the pic, i think its bigger than that one.
It has a cabin. Motor type, no sail/mast. I dont think we will get much further if i cant get the pincushion icon and post a pic for you. Is there any way round this? Is there an email address i can send it to?
Nothing to do with aircraft, sorry.

Chesford were a prolific local builder up to the 1980s. Mainly clinker built small launches, fishing boats, motor sailers and some sailing cruisers.

It is looking a tad unloved isnt it? What can i find out? Manufacture date? Is there a register it should be on? I would love to know a bit of its history. If you give me some really basic info on restoration i will try and make it look good again, though i need to start with several black bin liners as its full of rubbish. It has 2 wasps nests too yak.

a1154 (non-aero); where are you based, as it might be an idea to give one of this parish a small wander around, and deliver 1st hand advice.
