I've been on the boat for the last 10 days or so and used the D4 for hours on a daily basis. No problems, even this morning. Go to switch on just now and its not working.

It starts up as normal, fan then ticking from the pump, then a bit of warm air and then shuts down. Try it again and the same happens.

All thats changed is the amount of diesel left. Gauge shows quarter full and this is lower than I have let it go in the past but the gauge reads less than I actually have.

I can see diesel pumping into the unit when the pump is ticking as every so often a buble will move along the clear tube up into the heater. Not sure thats a good thing.

If it was'nt for the fact that it fires up each time I would have thought fuel problem. But it starts just wont continue to run.

Had a similar problem two years ago and the diagnosis was the brain (or thats what they called it) replaced and it went fine. Cant have gone again so soon. Cost around £200 from memory.

Any advise or observations?

Cheers

Gary

The same happened to me, the pick up is not at the bottom of the tank. I went below a qtr and it stopped working. I filled her up and it started first time.

Happened to me aswell. Turned out to be the tiny little fuel filter in the fuel pump that got blocked so not let enough diesel through. Only cost a few pounds to replace.

I have a S28 also, and my spacher has just shown the same symptoms. Can you please advise as to what model they fitted to the S28, and where did you source the filter, as I will try that first.

Cheers in advance.

We've got the D3L model, yours might be a D4 depending on what age the boat is. Got the new filter from a local eberspacher dealer. More info on it here - Q4 - FAQs

Hope this helps!

It is normal to have a seperate fuelpick up pipe for heaters let into the fuel tank and these are generally set high so they cannot run the tank dry and leave you with no fuelfor the engine. Solution is to keepyou tank topped up when you want heat.

Follow you pipe back to the tank and see if is seperate or t'd off the main outlet.

I had a D6 and I changed the filter etc and didn't prime it. Started the unit and nothing, tried again, nothing... well it went through it's start up process a few times then it stopped totally!

turned out to be a setting in the brain that if it can't start after x times it shuts down totally! I bought a new control box that allows you to re set the brain as the standard one doesn't allow you to do this.
