We have the Hood H325 Seafurl 5 genoa furling system.
Yesterday the collar securing the genoa just above the drum appears to have separated from the drum spilling out the stainless steel and Tolurene ball bearings.
I dont know if the collar has come up or the drum dropped down.
Does anyone know anything about these systems or where I can find some schematics to fix it.
Any help is gratefully appreciated.
Thanks

Full circle,
Thank you for the reply. I did find that but it was all I could find and it does not give any explanation or diagrams of how it fits together. Thank you for the info though.

If it gets beyond your abilities there is (or used to be) a Hood Agency in San Javier on the Mar Menor. They made a genoa for us. The guy running it is from Martinique and is fluent in English.

Thanks Chinita but we are now on Ibiza. I don't want to go into a marina if I can help it as I don't have enough arms and legs for them to take and other places had the shirt off my back. I need to find somewhere they sell ball bearings (metal and toluene) as most of mine have gone swimming.

Can you accurately measure them with a Vernier or Micrometer?
If so, may be able to locate some.
I think you may find they are Torlon, not Toluene (a liquid).
Harken travellers use Torlon balls..... be prepared to sacrifice another appendage, they aren't cheap.

Full Circle,
I recovered about 20 mixed Torlon (sorry) and stainless steel balls. There are riggers in Ibiza town so hopefully I can anchor and go in the dingy to get some. I still don't know why the collar above the drum has separated. I think the drum itself has dropped down but I cannot find any schematics to see how it all works.
Thank you for your help though.

Photographs posted here of the bits will help?

I've got an electronic version of the Hood manual, PM me with your e mail address and I'll forward a copy, the last few pages show a cross sectional drawing of the drum assembly.
I'll also forward the contact details, if you want, of the technical designer at Hood USA for this system, he's been very helpful to me on installing a 325 system last month.

Nostro, My boat's got a Hood Seafurl 2. If it's any help, PM me and I can send you the assembly diagram and the parts list that covers models 2535/3250.

FWIW......The 3250 is the older system, the 325 Seafurl5 was a re-design from the 3250 and has the benifit of allowing the forestay rigging screw to be adjustable (3250 was a fixed non adjustable stay). I'm not sure if any parts are interchangable and I know the latest manual doesn't specify the actual bearings size for sourcing from a non Hood supplier.

Thank you all so much for your help. I now have manuals thanks to the members of here. All I have to do now is work out what went wrong and try and fix it without going into a marina (Ibiza quoted about 600 euros for a one night stay)
Regards
Mark
