I’m trying to source some replacement air filters for my boat. It’s got two old Perkins 4.270 engines (1960 & 1961). As far as I can tell the engines are marinised tractor ones rather than the true marine ones (that my handbook alleges were made but I can find no trace of them!). They were fitted in 1990 to my boat. So well and truly old then.

The original engines would have had a oil bath filter. However, this has got two rubber hoses attached to a horizontal air intake with two completely different cartridge air filters attached. There also a rubber tube to the crankcase breather as well.

I guess the important dimension is the length (max 290mm) and the OD of the rubber hose attached to the air intake (70mm).

Here’s the two existing filters and their location on the engine. Neither of these have any identification marks.

How do I find some replacements!

(Please excuse the dirty state of the engines. I bought the boat a few months back and I'm still in the process of replacing, maintaining and cleaning it!).

Thanks a bundle.

Cheers

Air filtering doesn't have to be very sophisticated on marine engines, unlike agricultural ones. My Perkins only has 3mm mesh which is adequate to keep nuts, screws and bits of rag out.
