Hi

I am looking into fitting a back-up battery on the boat i am working on, The boat only has battery terminals for one side but i want to make a back up for the oppoosite side (which is where it used to be) But i dont have the first clue about this sort of thing so i was wondering if anyone can guide me through it or if there is a site to show me how???

Any help is appreciated!

Micky

Depends what you mean by "backup". If it is just as a spare for starting, you can use a battery changeover switch, which will give you either battery or both feeding to your engine/system.
Bit more detail please!

hello and welcome.

I understand your question, up to the point where you say "for one side".

In the original setup, was there a battery to port and one to starboard ? And as BP says, what do you want this second battery to do ? Is it create a 'bigger', longer lasting battery, or is it to provide lecky to another set of lights and kit on the other side ?

Yes, we need some more details please.
