Help wanted with loading charts to OpenCPN...Please!!

I keep loading this highly rated program and end up deleting it. I can never get past loading charts and only have the image of the world.

I'm using Vista. I have a folder called 'chart downloads'.

How do I get charts into the folder- UK Biscay, North Atlantic and the Med?

I have tried the user manual but I can not find any charts to download!

Please point me in the right direction!

Doesn't seem to work here.

I have charts downloaded - I know where they are - have pointed out to the program where they are - still no joy

Charts are available for money and I'm sure someone will tell you what and where - or - you can find a site with CM93 charts and download the Gigabytes using a thing called Torrent which any 14 year old can use but anyone with facial hair has no chance. These CM93 charts cover the world but have the wee disadvantage of being copyright so the sites hosting them may not be of the highest probity and your use of them may be not entirely legal. Good luck!

It seems to help if you put the charts in the root directory ie: C: rather than in separate sub files.

I've found plenty of CM93 downloads. I'm a bit too scared to hit download and invite something nasty in!

I spent all day searching for the chart downloads. Some sites start the download then ask for credit card details. A few sites require you to tick the box allowing it to reconfigure the computer. Some insist on changing internet settings and installing tool bars and other programs.

I really don't know what's safe and what to avoid.

Some people rate it here, I thinks its quite useless if you cant get charts for it!

Do you have a teenager in the house?

Worked for me. Been struggling with OpenCPN for most of the afternoon, then youngest came home from school and it took him all of 5 minutes.

PS: got me charts for most of the world to boot too.

Try asking for someone local to Falmouth who has successfully downloaded what you want. The files (so I am led to believe!) amount to about 1.5Gbyte so transfer over t'internet will take a looooooooooooooooooooooong time. If there was an altruistic Falmouther who had already overcome the download hurdles and was willing to help you .............. maybe over a pint?

The russian site I was aware of now seems to have been taken down, but I did see a torrent with the full set of CM93s just a few days ago.

Ah FFS... Ye needs a bit torrent prog like Vuze or uTorrent, and then ye points yer browser at the pirate bay me hearties....

Then ye searches for the X...

Unless ye be on Virgin then it gets complicated so yer basically ****ed.
