Deep in the bowels of Petronella we found a collection of these objects in various sizes. They were in a jar labelled "Unidentified Brass Fittings" and provided endless entertainment on storm bound evenings last season as we sought a use. Anyone know what they are? They are precision fittings, beautifully crafted with a seal on the male half.

That's hilarious :D

The o-ring is puzzling me, can't see why it goes there to seal nothing in particular in the female side. Is it incidental that they fit eachother but in use they go on the opposite ends of something?

Hmmmmmmm :rolleyes::)

I am pretty sure those are left handed imperial-sized pliers, so that means the SGTs are of American origin (assuming of course that the hoard is heterogeneous.)

They're not blanking plugs for engine fuel connections/pipes are they?

I was also going to suggest blanking plug. Maybe the female end with the finger grip is the blanking plug (perhaps for temporary use) and the male part with the slot is put on the blanking plug when it is not in use to keep it clean?

Or the other way round!

I thought for a moment the OP was resurrecting Pauline's recent post

"They are precision fittings, beautifully crafted with a seal on the male half. "

The r/h picture is.........pliers.

they are useful for holding and unscrewing things. I've got some myself, very handy they are too  I am surprised no one else appears to have any............

The other stuff? I dunno :( Maybe if she was re-engined these were blanks from various holes and pipes that were removed from the engine upon fitting?............ and then left onboard "just in case" / because they looked useful / too shiney to throw away / to puzzle a future owner :p)

I thought that, maybe from the heat exchanger to the hot water if you're a posh yachty type.

These pliers, can you buy them in normal shops?

No hot water on Top Cat?
Stu

Yes, we have a KISS system. First up boils a kettle and fills the three litre flask (with tap) and fits it over the sink in the heads. This keeps the water hot for 24hrs and warm most of the following day, no really, I am impressed, but this is not a cheapo chinese flask. It is the type used for board meetings and the like.

We fill a bucket for the shower (2ltrs of boiling will usually do one shower). Our KISS shower with a switch on the head is actually pretty good and I do feel clean after it.

I considered hot water for a bit, but we are already overweight, now running a stringent, one on one off with anything that comes on board. We are only small really. If I was doing it again.. I would have bought the eber water heater and run some small rads and hot water tank, with raw water cooled 9hp engines we are not going to make much hot water, in fact, I bet it is quicker boiling the kettles than running the motor, same system but manual I suppose.

OK, I'll throw them away...

Thanks for all your responses. At least no-one else is absolutely certain what they are either. I think I'll go with the beserk ant theory.

And I'll be throwing them away when we get back to the boat in early spring. However, I might hang on to one or two .... just in case!
