HELP, trying to get back on the water on a budget Wales or SW

I am happy guy the a3xloser was my old online chess handle, it sounds like I am easy to beat, then I crush you like a bug lol, I keep it now because it is never taken when you join a site
I am looking at Usmouth SC looks nice club, will look if there are any boats there forsale

I spent many years sailing in the Bristol Channel and whilst for some locations and some people it might be the right boat, I really don't see it as right for the Bristol Channel.

Assuming you mean the 26x, definitely not.

thx for clearing that up, I thought I missed a post.

so what sort of boat we looking at for noob at Newport usk area? you rule out the 26x, ok so whats good for this area, surly fin keel sail best but you need greater navigating skills, so bilge, lifting? I wish I never mentioned the 26x just glad I didn't suggest a Cat lol.

At the budget you have, the best boat is the one wrapped around the best engine you can find.

Don't get too hung up on keel designs. You are only looking at variances of say 50-70cm in draft between shoal and fun designs when talking about smaller boats, and that's way less than the margin of error you want to give yourself over drying banks etc. Speed advantages (if real) with fins are meaningless because you are always going with a fast moving tide.

If it was me I would probably be looking at something that could take the ground purely to keep the cruising costs down when working to a budget. Lots of smallish bilge keelers doing nothing around the BC, try walking around some yards and enquiring. Here's a thought, get a copy (from amazon or abebooks) of the old "observers guide to small craft". It's basically a compendium of British small yachts from the 1970s. Will give you some ideas. Also have a look at small French lift keelers like some of the 80s Gib Sea range. More modern boats with a more modern layout and quite suitable for the BC.

Pwhlleli is a good compromise between Porthmadog (long way to get to the open sea) and Abersoch (beautiful but it'd be a swinging mooring or in the drying harbour upto about a metre draft). That's if you're looking North - my partner lives near Wolvs, so know it takes around 2-5 - 3 hrs to Pwhlleli... Good luck! :-)
