Help - Ships Radio Licence

I already have a certificate of competence but passed in the days when DSC was a degree, not a type of radio. Are there any upgrade courses to cut the amount of bum-numbing time that has to be spent getting the new licence?

You are way behind. As Pete says conversion courses had a brief period of popularity when DSC first came in, but it is so long ago now and most people will have got new certificates. You do not have to take the course as it can be done distance learning and then take the exam. However you may find it difficult to find just an examiner so most people do the integrated course and exam.

You should re-register your VHF. However, pretty sure if you have a UK certificate of competence that is valid in Eire.

I don't know for sure, but I agree that makes sense given that Germans with a sufficient standard of English were coming to do the course here instead of their own excessively complex and difficult one.
