I am considering upgarding my boat to a Sealine S28 because it's got the layout SWMBO and I are looking for and its got the option of twin diesel 170hp engines.

Although the stated performance seems to be slow for this engine combination. Sealine's specs say it'll do 32 Knots. According to Fairline their targa 30 with the same engines will do 36 - 39 knots. Who can I believe, is this a difference in hull design or is it marketing bull?

Do any of you have any experience with either of these boats. I would quite like to buy the S28 but if the hull desing is no good I will think again. I've read a couple of postings that say the S28 chine walks??? is this an indication that it isn't a good hull and would this explain the top end difference between the Targa 30 and the S28?

Thanks in advance.

Wakeup - have you thought of the Maxum 3000 SCR layout - it gets rid of that having to make up a bed in the pointy bit issue? And the dinette is still big enough for four/five boddies to huddle round the chips 'n dip bowl.

Go left, YOUR OTHER left for pete's sake
(IMHO, BTW, FWIW and NWGOI)

Have they stopped using the nylon fur in the mid berth on the Maxum cruisers yet?

What sort of price are you looking for?

yada yada..

No nylon fur that I could find - all leather now, mines not for sale, unless of course you want to pay £75k in which case I could be tempted <G>

I would be interested to know what speed does the Maxum 3000scr cruise at and what does it do WOT?

Maxum 3000SCR speeds...

Well the book say's it does 38kts. I'm still playing with the the trim settings etc.. but it seems quite happy at 3,500RPM and between 28 and 30kts. I only got 32/33 out of mine but that was pretty fully loaded, clean bottom though. No idea what the fuel burn is.

Buy the Fairlline, better built IMHO, sorry if youre reading this Richard!.

Hello,

If I were you I'd go for the Targa. It would look very nice on your 'private' berth.

BTW - Do you know there are fireworks at about 2200 over by MQ tonight. I may go see them on my boat.

OK Channel,

I now know who you are and where you work and how you take your coffee, so I wouldn't go posting anymore of my private details if I were you ;-)

No problem, I tend to agree with you although when I looked at a Fairline at the London Boat show I thought they were similar quailty to Sealine and come to think of it so where many other makes. Can't help thinking they are a little over rated- like the BMW car image (people have them for image not quality these days).

However I think price has to be the major factor, the Fairline is probably at a guess £15-20K more so a serious consideration.
