I happen to think that one of the very bestest things about the Fairline targa 48 was/is the folding cockpit table. And I am wanting to find out if anyone knows who could make me one with similar fab design features, not quite the same dimensions, so twould have to be a one-off

Now, the T48 has lots of other good features, but its the cockpit table that makes all other foldy tables i have seen look very manky. Folding tables have hinges, to reduce the size of the table, making more space to move about when not having a meal. The t48 has hinges too BUT it has a cleverly designed central circle moulding probably made of avonite or Corian and the foldout part sits on this all along the hinged side, so the foldable bit is fully supprted and isn't rickety yet needs no saily-boat-stye underneath supports either. Not a great description but anyway, you'll have to have a look at one sometime. Anyway, how am i gonna get one of those made? Anyone any ideas?

Go to somewhere like B&Q and buy 10ft by 8ft of their cheapest Plywood or MDF (the large size should be enough to account for all the mess ups you'll make) Take said wood(if you can call it that) home and place on your dining table or kitchen work surface, next rush out to garage to find the oldest most blunt saw you can, or get your nice new ultra high speed mega sharp LPG powered jigsaw, take chosen weapon inside and place next to the "wood". Get a marker pen and guesstimate the size of your nice new table, draw (no ruler needed) the guesstimated table shape/size onto the "wood". The next bit is best done when SWMBO is out, preferably a long way away, I suggest sending her off to relatives for the weekend who live a long way away. Take your chosen weapon and hack the "wood" somewhere around the line you drew earlier, this should live the perfect table top ideal for all the posh people you will no doubt have on your boat. But hang on, we are not finished yet, go and find SWMBO's ironing board (you can find it can't you?) and take the four legs off it, actually there are two legs but any hoo, who needs four, you don't!! Stick the two legs onto the bottom of your table with Araldite or Epoxy.
Now for the decoration, go and get 6 differnt coloured 1litre paint tins, open them up and paint the bottom of each tin with the enclosed paint, place each tin onto the area of the table where you expect people to sit (it should give them a place to put there plate) You will now have 6 nice differnt coloured rings all over the table. To finish the table get one tin of yacht varnish and cover the table in it using the dish cloth from the kitchen.
You will now have a beautiful looking 6 seater table that would look the part in the cockpit of your leopard.

Ooh. Sound a lots more fiddly than some of my projects, especialy my recent boat-built swimmer-mounted fake shark fin of which I am particularly proud, esp the quality of the hacking er carpentry and the fabulous bodgeup wood nails carefully inserted with a big hammer and then tightened up a bit, and countersunk with another whack of the hammer. Actually, Zefender helped me a bit (that's him grassed up) and I am afraid that i can now easily quote you as inspiration, sort of.

I think a Mosse might need four legs?

You didn't thiunk you'd get a decent answer out of this lot, did you? OK, The best way I know of how you're going to do it, is contact the builders of the boat, I think you will find, the table is probably made in Italy where most modern boat interiors are made these days, and then contact the people who make them. they may be able to help. Otherwise you'd need a pattern, then get one made by a Local?? chippy, photos may be ok aswell, if he's good enough. Your french is good enough no doubt.

It may be the best cockpit table in the world but there are'nt fiddles to stop your lunch sliding into your lap when some berk flies past your anchorage at 30knots
Actually it says Besenzoni on the base so maybe worth contacting them to see if they have different sizes

You could nick one at Southhampton, we could all arrange to mob the Fairline stand and create a distraction. while you stealthy replace a t52 table with a pasting table?

Or you could talk to fairline and invite them to try to encourage you back to their marque piece by piece and start with a new customised t48 table.

Tell all the boat manufacturers that you are writing a piece on 50ft something cockpit tables and they should each send you one for you to review.

Re: Besenzoni

Mmm, a Fairline bloke told me it was a Besenzoni product but maybe he was wrong and it is far too well engineered to have been made by Fairline - if it had been it would be held together by a couple of half inch self tappers and mine would certainly have fallen apart by now
So there must be a quality table manufacturer out there who is hiding his light under a bushel

Re: Besenzoni

Besenzoni, may buy them in especially for fairline, I bet a contact with them might get results, especially from Leopard themselves, hint, hint!

Interent organised mobbing is the latest trend .

among youngters you know, did you hear about the one they had in DFS in London last week....http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbcthree/news/7oclocknews/features/mob_080803.shtml

perhaps we should try this with the named boat dealers in the name and shamed section, we could have cards printed up with "You've been visited by the MOBO Chat forumites"
