We have finally made our mind up to move our boat from Tewkesbury to Penarth Marina. The only problem I have is that being inexperienced at taking our boat to sea I have tried to hire a Pilot to take us from Sharpness to Cardiff. I phoned the Pilot this morning to confirm, only to be told - sorry cant confirm until Saturday morning.

Does anyone know an experienced skipper that would be willing to take us across the Bristol Channel ?

The usual lashings of tea, coffee, sandwiches and expenses would be on hand.

Tony, have you spoken to Alan Stafford at SOS?

Is it really that hard to do alone? With a GPS on board you just leave Sharpness at HW and follow the blue bits. Once past the bridges it is open water.

I was really surprised to read in Portishead Marina that Portishead-Bristol pilots were charging £150 each way.

Hi Paul, no I haven't spoken to Alan about the crossing but I got the feeling he hadn't done a lot of sea work ?

Hi Stevev2, looks like I could end up getting some use out of my charts I brought just after I did my PB2 ! BTW the cost of a pilot from Sharpness to Cardiff is £250 each way

Hi

What boat is it? I may be able to help, we need to get back to Cardiff on Saturday to pick up our boat which we left at CYC last Sunday (we are based at Thornbury so Sharpness is fine)

That probably won't take us as long to get to Cardiff as it does on Temujin then!

I'll confirm tonight but it should all be fine, are you ok if there is myself and one other?

Regards, Adrian.

Hi Raf, yes a good result indeed. I have been following your thread on your new purchase with my wife and must admit we are both very envious :-) looks a very nice boat. Good luck and no doubt we will bump into each other soon - figuratively speaking of course.

Thanks Tony, we feel a bit numb at the moment. Of course she won't feel properly ours until we are on board, and have got things the way we like. would be good to hook up at some point. Hope your trip to Cardiff goes well. Don't forget the pics please.

Hi Sneds im sure we will enjoy our trip to Cardiff especially now we have someone experienced in making the crossing joining us to help us novices with navigation.

My boat is a Princess 286 called Aquaflyte. I think Otters Wake is a Princess 266 which is moored at Upton Marina.

You're right, a 266. she used to moor next to me in Bristol. I just wondered if she had been sold.
Reckon you'll enjoy being in cardiff, we love it there.
If it wasn't for the bridge toll we would consider moving our boat to Cardiff

Hurray ! We made it. Many thanks to Adrian & Sarah ( Temujin)who navigated for us. We had a very good run across from Sharpness with good weather conditions. We locked out at 10:00 and arrived at Cardiff Barrage at 11:30. Really pleased with how Aquaflyte performed as this was the first time out on the sea for us. I will post some pics as soon as I work out how to do it.

Just a comment. Since returning to the BC in the past year, I sensed a dip in activity / enthusiasm for this forum compared to the past, and yet when somebody asks for help, forum members immediately come out of the woodwork and the job gets done! That's really great to see.

Congratulations Tony. Looking fwd to the pics. It is best to use a host like Photobucket to load your pics from. If you search on the Mobo forum you will find plenty of tips.
