I have recently bought a 17ft console boat that i'd like to turn into a cabin cruiser (overnighter for fishing), the hull is in fantastic condition (recently restored)
What is the best way to construct the cabin? I'm new to boating but having done a bit of research the poles and canvas (think it's called a bimini cover?) looks the best option, or can I get a fibreglass one custom made?
I've attached a photo of the boat below
Thanks
Luke

Sorry you haven't had a response to your query, people are usually quick to respond with advice.

In essence, unless you have strong DIY skills and some knowledge of boats then I would have thought building a wheelhouse form GRP or timber would be difficult . The link doesn't seem to work so I haven't seen your boat but weight may also be an issue if you take this route and having it done professionally would be expensive.

An option may be a Bimini cover using canvas or PVC and a stainless steel frame but whether you will be able to put sides as well as a roof on will depend upon the boat. In the absence of a windscreen you would need to keep the front open so that you can see where you are going....acrylic windows are good but not for seeing clearly through. A marine canopy maker should be able to advise what is possible but expect to pay a reasonable sum. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice Greg, I will have the summer using it as it is then get something more suitable for 2016
Best regards
Luke
