I want to spray my cruiser hull from boot topping up whilst still afloat and 2-pack polyurethane is advised as a best bet for durability and gloss. However, spraying can lead to problems with the solvents contaminating water course not to mention health problems for the operator (me!).

Does anyone know if there is a solvent free non-toxic 2-pack polyurethane that can be sprayed but won't break the bank or annoy the river authority?

Its not two pack but Teknos paint is what the joinery trade are using to spray external joinery . Theres not alot of info out there about it and it's not a marine paint but then Yacht varnish is also not for marine use /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif The primer is a high build primer so you get a good base with that and then top coat . Its sprayed straight from the tin and the over spray is very little .

I would be wary about humidity levels, condensation and the effect of your spraygun on the water surface driving mist up onto the surface, Sorry.

Hi there Cuchillo,

That's not that water-based micro-porous stuff is it?

Blueboatman, we don't worry about water spray, just tipping a couple of gallon of old sump oil on the water deals with that.

Only joking EA - honest! Actually, I was thinking about floating a piece of foam on the water surface like polystyrene sheet to catch most of the spray dust and prevent that sort of thing.

I'm not sure on the technical details , i just asked another joiner what he was using and he gave me the phone number /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif It dries like a plastic coating and gives a lovely finish .

Hi Cuchilo,
Teknos do both water based and solvent 2 pac. Ask for steve aston, he the tec man on paint. I used the solvent 2 pac two years ago, gave good results, Have just ordered more to replace the single coat yacht paint which keeps coming off onto everone fenders moored next to me!
