help needed please

hi been offered this engine for my micro plus 501 boat but don't know if this is a long or short shaft outboard engine can some one help please as need to know by tomorrow as thinking of buying it and needed to know it will fit... think I need a long shaft on mine

The evinrude 70 looks like a long shaft in that pic. Check with a tape measure - if it is long then it will be 20 inches from top edge of boat transom to the anti-cav plate - that is the horizontal plate/surface right above the propeller (showing doel fin scars and bruises in your picture). If it is short shaft it will be 15inch. But from that photo I would be 99.9% sure it is a 20 inch, ie long shaft
 
hmm. Are you pushing the envelope with that engine ?

The 461 has a max hp of 50, and the 502 a max of 75 HP.


They are known to be a bit sensitive to following seas (reports in sea fishing forums) , and an engine weight of around 270 lbs (equivalent to two people ?) on the stern may be too much. Most of the 501s for sale for open sea use seem to be around 40 - 50 hp.
 
just reading on another forum 1 guy had a 100hp on his and it done ok, my 60hp was ok but it was back heavy with 4 people on it I just sat one of them on the top and it went loads better
