Hi guys,

I need help. We are trying to refit a Birchwood Regent 1982. Basically the forerunner of the 440. I have been told only 8 were produced. The problem we are encountering is that the last owner was a bit of a DIY man. His rewiring is mindboggling. Maybe someone out there has old wiring diagrams or any other technical info they could fax to me. 0034971677746
Your help would be gratly appreciated.

P.S. I did get in contact with Birchwood Boats, but no luck on that front.

Sunny greetings from Mallorca

I hope I am proven wrong but I doubt very much that a wiring diagram was issued for that boat; many boats of that era had no wiring diagrams or even sketchy ones.

Even if you track one down be cautious...not unknown for the workforce to think different from the draughtsman.

The Recreational Craft Directive has many faults but it has brought some much needed discipline to this area.

As an owner of two Birchwood's, a 27' Countess & a TS37, I can appreciate your dilema. However, I have found the engine wiring diagrams provide all the essential functional wiring in relation to getting the boat moving, eng , oil pressure etc etc. So if you can get an engine installation manual it will be a start. As regards the services, as Kim says, you will not find one. It really depends on what you are trying to do. If you wish to modernise it, say by replacing the old Axon push-button cut-out switch panel, then you will have to identify what each switch does, but the cable itself will probably ok, so a new, more modern illuminted panel could be put in it's place. I think it is not worth ripping old wiring out, just for the sake of it. Just find out what each switch or cut-out does and you might even be able to re-designate the use of some of these DIY cable runs, providing of course they are man enough to take the indended current. Additional cables can be run alongside the old loom, with the 12 or 24V picked up from the main panel.
Hope this helps
Rgds
