Firstly - Do you know how to drive/sail/navigate cross channel/do basic maintenance? If no to any of those then upgrade your knowledge base before doing anything else. Second - get a few books and charts on channel crossing and different canal routes to South of France.... After that its a piece of cake - although need to consider things like weather( can get cold on canals in winter); are you going solo( canal locks can be difficult sometimes on your own).....Maybe lots to learn - but quite realistic and the canals are great

hi, i know a little bit about maintaining a boat engine and equipment, little bits about navigational skills, which i will be brushing up on... i have just aquired the french waterways book...but the main thing i am unaware of is the documents and licences i require to enter and travel the french waterways...thankyou in advance for replies...marcus

Marcus I think you just purchased my French Canals book - if so then you will have all the info you need to start planning... If it was another Marcus then do go to my web site and have a look at the info there...

regards

Michael
