I am hoping to move to Almerimar Marina on Feb 10th or thereabouts. I just tried phoning ahead, from the UK, to book a berth for 3 months and was told in finest Spanish style "We don't have a berth for a yacht your size (42ft /12m70) but arrive early morning and you should be OK!"

I am a little nervous of this informal arrangement as the boat HAS to be moved because it is currently on the last owners mooring in Puerto Banus - and its a fair sail to make all the way to Almerimar only to be turned away!! So I would like to check with someone already there what the realistic chances are of getting a berth ? Also I have been quoted - for a 15 mtre berth - 772 euros for 3 months plus 3.21 per day for services. This seems pretty good compared with quotes further west on the Costa del Sol - can anyone confirm that this sounds a realistic price?

I am currently ashore at Almerimar and have been for 4 months now.We managed to reserve a hardstanding on the internet with them, but a berth seems harder to organise. There is a particularly helpful chap in the Capitans office by the name of Fumi.Speaks perfect english and has been very helpfull to our requirements.
I am going there for a few days on Sunday,if you like i can inquire on your behalf in person.

Good luck, Phil

Stevie,

We spent last winter there and agree with White_Lady, Fumi is a top chap and very accommodating. We were told something similar when we pre-called for an arrival in late Sept. but on arrival found there seemed to be a fair number of places and were given a very snug spot.

I agree with others. The place is not like puerto Banus with vast pressure on berths, many if not al privately held, able to shrug and turn people away. Almerimar is vast, with not at all too much pressure on berths. I would go with their vague assurance - which has ring of confidence too.

The reluctance to commit to a place seems to be very common in Spain. We tried to book a winter berth at a number of marinas in Mallorca and on the mainland. In every case we could not pay in advance but were told to turn up at the beginning of October, when there would definitely be places.

We have been here in Almerimar all winter and last winter. As a policy, Almerimar does not allocate berths until you arrive. There are loads of spaces though don't know about your size. We are 12.75m x 4m and need a 15m berth. Presently there is a slot next to me in Darcena 3 which is a bit tight but you'd get in. Sending you my mobile number by PM. Good luck. - David

David,

Does Almerimar have a price list for 2006/2007? I cant find anything related to prices on their web site. Might do Oct to March, or July and August,

From what you have said, we might be ships that pass in the night if you come to Lagos <g>

Sorry, I don't have the charges to hand as I am working this week and not on the boat. If you call them they will give you the prices - they speak excellent English and are very professional. They also answer emails. They will not reserve a berth for you, tho'. You could try paying for a berth over the phone with a VISA and they might do that for you if you faxed the reg. documents. Sometimes they say they do, and sometimes they say they don't...but you would have to start paying right away in any case.

It seems to me that there is less pressure on spaces and services in this part of the Med than 2005, but that is a bit subjective and take it for what it is worth.

We might still come back next winter. Things going on in our working lives and so on....
