Help needed from this august collective. Topic is trailer sailer, specifically brakes.

I have a ‘new to me’ trailer and have attached a picture of the brake unit. (right hand wheel). I don’t recognise the make and model and want to see if anyone else does. Google has been no help.

It has a castle style nut, so not Aklo. Brake hub is 8 inch internal diameter and current brake pad width is 1.5 inch. The expander doesn’t look like a knott avonride and the adjuster seems to be absent, replaced by that socking great spring (top of picture). I had in mind Lockheed, but it doesn’t look like the auto reverse Mk2.

Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

the spring is unusual, and not easy to understand, it isn't logical.
Not much help, but it doesn't look like a Bradley brake either...

How about asking the previous owner ? Also a picture of the entire trailer might provide a clue as somebody might recognise the manufacturer and be able to point you in the right direction

I am awaiting news of availability of AlKo brake drums. The parts shop says their UK arm are rubbish to deal with.....oh joy?

I wish you success, but I don't recognise them either I'm afraid.

Looks like they have replaced the hydraulic brake cylinder with a 850 mini Valve Spring.
A photo of the outside of the drum would help.
On a boat trailer I was thinking of buying the owner said it was an Indespension Trailer. I sent photos of the trailer to Indepension and they said it was not one of their trailers, although the owner had bolted Indespention bits on it. On another boat I bought in France it had a French Satellite Trailer which is totally different to anything manufactured in the UK. It could be an early French one,
Indespention do a very good book "The Trailer Manual" which is worth getting. I believe the American trailer I have when imported into the UK had a UK Braked Axle bolted on so the boat they had brought across the Atlantic could be towed on UK roads.
If its just a single axle I would consider buying a new axle, not dear, you may find the wheel may fit.

Auto reverse dual leading shoe, in one direction spring housing is a anchor to brake shoes, in other direction it compresses the spring, thus low braking. May date back to the 1980's, about the time I gave up trailer undergear design, has a feeling I know, but 40 years have passed.

Tell me about it. I tried to get some some information on a tow hitch, still waiting.
