I have twin Volvo Penta KAD 300's.

Went for a spin today and the most the Port engine gets up to is 1800 revs. Both engines start off fine and increase in line until they get to 1800 revs and the port one then stays at 1800. There is a lot of Black smoke when the Port engine reaches 1800 and returns to normal smoke when the Revs are dropped.

During the year I did notice that the Port engine would take a while to reach the same Revs as the starboard. Maybe a 3/4 second delay.

The starboard runs fine, but will not now pass 2800 revs. !!!!

Can anyone help and what should be my first step.

Probably the boost control switch has failed.

Is the port compressor kicking in? You can check easy when you startthe engine when cold. During warming up the compressors are working. If not, check the 5A inline fuse by the electrobox on the engine. If the fuse is broken it is the beginning of the end of the compressor clutch.
