Help, 21 year old mug required!

Hi There,

I'm after a little help / information.
My father-in-law owns a mug that I can only assume was part of a promotion from practical boat owner.
The mug has a greater circumference at the base than it does at the top, is made from bone china, cream in colour and has small boats detailed around the sides in brown.
On the base of the mug it reads "Practical Boat Owner 1988"

This is his favourite mug but is now heavily chipped and cracked and on it's last legs.

If you have any idea where I can find a similar mug or indeed if you have the same mug gathering dust in your loft I would be very interested in hearing from you.

I appreciate that there are countless mugs available on the internet but the key characteristic that I am after is the shape.
The base circumference is greater than the rim thus preventing spills.

I have spent many an hour on the internet and in various chandlery shops looking for similar with very little luck.

Once I'm home I'll try and upload a picture
 
Think you will find they were made specifically for PBO. They are in a set of 4 all with different boats on them. My set is in pristine condition and sorry, not for sale!

Nauticalia used to do similar style so they may be worth a try.

10 years later and stilled looking for that mug! Just to recap; its base is wider that the top ( traditional captains mug shape), beige in colour with small brown boats on it.
The base reads "Practical Boat Owner 1988"

Someone previously suggested that these were a set of 4 made at the time, so if you have one gathering dust please let me know.

You probably know this but if you search for, say: Mug (practical, PBO) on ebay, you can save the search and set an alert so if one ever comes up for auction, you'll know about it and can bid.
 
Nauticalia do a range of wide based ceramic mugs. You have to wade through the list though, many are enamelled tin. Seems they all have twee nautical messages.
 
I have a couple of mugs "that" shape. They were produced by the Uig Pottery, about ten years ago. They currently show a "Trotternish Hens" mug of the right shape.

If you want a set, you might be able to ask for a design with boats on, as these are not "transfers" or at least they weren't last time I was there.
 
We have four 'Aladin' plastic insulated mugs of the same shape - had them for well over ten years.

Hold a pint, so when half full no spilling, and they have the advantage that certain meals can be eaten from them safely while underway in challenging conditions. Non slip rubber on the bottom too.

Especially First Mates 'at sea' breakfast, chopped bacon, pre-cooked potato pieces, baked beans and stirred in eggs cooked up and transfered to the mugs.

Eaten with a spoon or fork it certainly sets you up for the morning! Stew and curries work well too.

Wow, 10 years in search of a mug. You deserve to find one :D

I have one of these, which while not a PBO mug, is the shape that you describe, being wider at the base than the top.
