Does anyone have any experience of mounting solutions for an iPad near the helm?

I quite like the idea of a suction mount so that I can take it with me when I leave the boat. They seem to range from about £6 to about £60 so am a bit confused as to which one to get....!

Here is an example of the £5 version

And a £50 version

Does anyone have any views?

I use the cheap version for an ipad mini and have it in one of those water proof zip lock sleeve type things.. Have the charging cable in as well and assuming I never go completely under water gravity should stop any water getting to the ipad.. :)

I've had 2 of them cheap ones so far and broke them both, if you don't do them up really tight they move as you bounce along so you do them up tight and the plastic breaks. The suction bit works well but that's all I did put some stainless washers on the knuckle joints and it's worked a bit better.

Different style of boat, but we have the Lifedge ( http://www.lifedge.co.uk ) case for our iPad mounted using a RAM mount ( http://www.ram-mount.co.uk ) to fix it to the binnacle.
Lifedge do make their own mount now, though.

The case (we have the earlier version, before the one with the accessible ports) has worked well for the last couple of years, easily surviving numerous downpours and sea spray.
