It's odd, I think insurance has got cheaper in the past 15-20 years (and that's before taking inflation into account).

That was an odd one, because some things DID stack up.
One in particular was....
The guy PM'ed me and I knew his 'real' name
I did the obvious Google Image creep and saw facial pictures
The low res selfies he uploaded did match the same profile as the 'real name' guy (granted it was mainly hair profile as almost impossible to make out facial features)
The selfie was on the upper deck of what looked like a large boat matching the description of the vessel in question
It was a weird one. If a true troll, damn fine job!

Welcome to the forum. Ignore the doubters. Personally, I see nothing suss in your post at all. All advice as before re own boat tuition, VHF, safety equipment etc is a big must. Give Mendez Marine a call for training...they're great: http://www.mendezmarine.co.uk/
