Hi ECF-ers!

First of all, apologies for the radio silence over the last few weeks and also apologies for absence at the re-arranged ECF supper yesterday - didn't catch it at all even though we've been in Essex/Suffolk on the boat this last week!

Incidentally, Saturday night was the Tollesbury CC supper, the Leisure Owners Supper and the ECF supper so we were spoilt for choice but we spent it at the Leisure event in the end. Only found out about the ECF dinner today now we're back in Somerset! Sorry!!

Anyway, the Big News is that we've sold Kioni (sob! sniff!). We've spent the last week fertling and fettling to get her all posh and ready for internal inspection by her prospective new owners and Friday she passed muster and our beloved little boat will be ours no longer. Her new owners are a lovely couple and she will be well looked after. The best bit really is that we'll making a delivery cruise to them in two weeks time - back across the oceans to her original home in West Mersea!

So we've been busy and now we move on to step 3 of our Master Plan which is to bring Saguday back from the other side of the Atlantic. Don't know exactly when yet but we're going to try for early-mid June if we can - lots of logistics to sort out yet. This means we're going to be boatless for the London cruise so we will miss that. We are all hoping that she'll be in commission in time for the Pirate weekend though!! We'll let you know.

Oh, and I've bought a double bass and have sort of learned to play it since we last spoke so that's another distraction from the forum recently.

Hey ho, hope to see you all again soon, the weather was great this week, we had a great time at Tollesbury and could really feel the season kicking in - we love the east coast!

Cheers

Saint Saens coo sounds like posh classical stuff I'm just bashing away playing bluegrass and folk while I get to grips with the thing. I love it though, haven't played my electrics since I bought it 2 months ago. I also get a lot more gigs, 3 times a week at the moment, never played this much with electric bass.

It will fit in inside Saguday although I'm not sure if the companionway is big enough! A pity my musical and sailing interests are mutually opposed in this respect, maybe time to join my son and play recorder

That wasn't you at the Coast Inn session with the db last Thursday, was it, Neil? The session is going gangbusters, and we're doing a shanty special for the Thursday of Mersea Week, if you're around.

Sadly not, I didn't have room to bring it wot with the wife and kids and stuff. When are the Coast Inn sessions are they always Thursdays? I may see if I can wangle bringing it next time - I've been jamming at various folk/acoustic sessions locally for the last few weeks and I'm well well out of my comfort zone, being a rock/funk guy trying to improv to folk stuff I don't know on an instrument I've just bought is quite challenging but great fun :D

Yep, Thursday every week. It's a broad church musically, some tunes but mostly accompanied songs, so you're welcome to do anything that floats your musical boat! I can bring an electric bass down to save you lugging the db all that way.

We have now formed a band from the session, called 'Blackwaterside' and are performing at the Mersea Food & Drink Festival on Whitsun Bank Holiday weekend (Sat & Sun), on the first Sunday of Mersea Week, and also between the watersports and the prizegiving/fireworks on Town Regatta day (14th August).

Hi
Do the Coast Inn have 'noisy' bands? (see link below)
I'm sure I asked them about a gig ages ago but it didn't seem to be suitable as a venue back then.
Cheers

Hi, yes, I've seen a few noisy bands down at the Coast of late, and there was a brill night with three bands during last Mersea Week (can't remember the first, Plod was second and Saltdog headlined), that played al fresco in the car park. I know they're doing the Saltdog gig again this year on the Friday before Mersea Week, and don't know if they've sorted the lineup out yet, but that will be a great gig.

Good luck
Greg

There was a four day beer fest at the Shipwreck, Shotley last year. Some bands there, not sure if they are doing it this year but might be worth checking ?
