Helicopter tape

I've used this stuff or similar for MTB frame protector;

and was thinking of using it to protect topsides at key points against mooring warp abrasion. I was wondering has anyone had any experience with this or alternatives? Works well on the bike, but thats for stone chips not salty rope rubs.

I would think it would work well. I had a huge roll of the proper 3M helicopter blade tape that I left behind when I moved house. Didn't think of any boat uses.
