Does anyone have a good idea what actual height will cause flooding of the road at this spot. There is a surge predicted for this evening which may be around 0.6m above normal a 3.6m HW at around 9-30 and we are expecting to be there around that time or a bit later. Unfortunately the surge is predicted to continue until the early hours so the tide may come up and then take a long time to go down again!! Would 4.2 - 4.4 be over the road?

Not sure but to OS map give a couple of spot heights of 3.0m above mean sea level.
A usual spring tide would be around 4.2 so you may be o.k.

Just driven past. It’s flooded! HHA giving surge prediction of over a metre.

Road is passable though, shouldn’t cause too many problems

By the time got to the Strand, 10-50, the road was clear, and the tide height at Harwich was 4.37. The surge was still rising and peaked later in the night at over 1.8m, just as well it was neither at HW nor Spring tide!!

Aquaboy has pointed out a little understood fact that there can be a large difference between forecast and actual tides. If you run aground on the top of a spring tide and there is a surge you may never get off like wise if you are crossing a showl area and due to high pressure and wind direction the tide is half a meter below forecast you could be in trouble.
I think everyone knows how to get this data but just in case it is available from HHA.co.uk Live data.
