Is it acceptable to lower first the exhaust-hose by 10 cm between the waterlock and the goose-neck, before going up to the gooseneck. The reason is that the hose should pass a floor which is lower than the output connection of the waterlock. Could anyone advice me?
( I realize I have to drain the hose in winter ! )

I believe if the waterlock is not at the lowest point then the water inside it will drain out and it will not function as a waterlock. Could you reposition the waterlock at the lower place?
And is it a waterlock, or a silencer?

[/ QUOTE ] The outlet of a water lock is more or less at the top so the water will not drain out and it will continue to function nomally.

The boat I crewed for many years had the exit hose fall by an amount in excess of 10cm IIRC.

I think the only problems that could arise are an increase in the back pressue on the engine if there was a huge drop and the consequences of the the water in the hose finding its way back into the waterlock if the waterlock was too small to contain it.

IIRC means waterlevel?
I am building a launch and the problem is that one can walk around the engine and the floor is as low as possible. So the outlet of any waterlock is too high.
Thanks for your answer
You write that the fall of the hose was in excess of 10 cm.
How much do you guess it was?

IIRC means "if I remember correctly"!

Regarding the fall of the hose. Think it was more than 10cm but not a lot more, 15cm at the most. I really ought to be able to remember more clearly: I did enough work on the boat over the years but detail like that does not come high on the list of "things I must remember"

I really not not think that you will have any problems with a dip as small as 10cm. If you had to go several times that you might. As I already said the important factor is that the waterlock is large enough to contain all the water that is left in the hose when the engine is stopped.
