I used to use Castrol Heavy Grease for odd anti corrosion jobs like smearing the "U" bolts and nuts at the back end of the boat trailer and other places where it had to resist getting washed off with a hose.

Only trouble is that the tin is empty and I can't find any more.

Does any one else make this stuff?

It may still be available in their "Classic" range of lubricants but I cannot find it on their website, so I guess it is no longer.

It's worth trying an independent motor spares shop near where there is dinghy sailing as they liked it for their trailer wheel bearings. That's how I got my last tin but it was several years ago.

The nearest modern equivalent is probably Castrol Spherol L-EP 2. I can't suggest where you get that either but I'd put money on Halfords not stocking it.

Frankly for just smearing on bolts and things I use the old grease removed from wheel bearings etc but for corrosion protection Waxoyl is better. You can get that in aerosols, but I always have a little handy together with a small brush.

i would suggest going to an industrial oil and grease suppliers you will find one in the phone book. ask for 5 th wheel grease its what they use on the 5 th wheel on a artic tractor unit. its very water proof and is ideal for the job you describe. i bought a huge 5 kg tin for about 6 or 7 quid a couple of years ago.

Hi Vic
Just how good is Waxoyl in a marine environment and does it have good resistance to laying surface water as in a bilge etc?
