As a small boat owner I have a hob but moving on to fitting an oven is a pretty major step.
I only want to be able to heat pasties/srolls etc not actually cook anything.
In the panels experience what is the best way to do this - or should I just fit an oven...........

Back in the 60's or 70's, (or so my Dad told me) there was a bit of a craze for "engine cooked food". Wrap up your pie or whatever in tin foil, wire the parcel to the exhaust manifold or somehere hot and hey presto half an hour later, piping hot Steak and Kidney a la Volvo.

We have a large frying pan with a glass lid in our camper, for exactly this purpose. It was bought at a boat show about 10 years ago but no doubt they are available elsewhere. Many years ago we used to cook in "camp ovens" which were a biscuit tin over a fire. They worked then, so should still do so now. Perhaps the fire is going a step too far, but on the gas stove ought to be an acceptable alternative.

I just have a two ring hob - there is not sufficient space below the hob to fit a gimballed oven. We eat very well. My crew can do wonders with a frying pan and/or boiling/steaming. I'm no cook and only uncork the wine! And wash up afterwards.
My crew has suggested fitting a microwave - a major task in my book, but I would prefer to spend the money on pub lunches.

Re: Camper Oven

For a long time we used a 'dry fry pan' bought from a camping shop. It was like a frying pan with a funnel up the middle. It even cooked oven chips. Pies etc could be heated up without any problems.
I think the later ones lost the hole, but had a sort of a dimple in the centre. Used to cost about a tenner.

thanks to everyone for their suggestions - I will probably try them all!
esp gratefull for the engine comment - having had outboards for so long I hadn't applied myself to think that through. Waste heat from a 230 Yanmar should get them piping hot!

Thanks again.
