I would like to help a friend of mine with a home heating problem. The system is about 10 years old, with a condensing boiler, therefore no hot water tank. The heating seems to work OK but the hot water does not. In the kitchen the water runs for a short while when you open the hot tap and then slows down and stops. In the bathroom the water runs warm and comes out a white colour.
My friend has just moved in so does not know if it has worked recently.
Any ideas?

I am assuming that it is a combination condensing boiler. The white water is quite normal, if you fill a clear glass and hold it up to the light you will see bubbles rising as it is fresh water heated quickly and will soon clear.

If the bathroom has hot water I would be looking at the kitchen tap.

I have found that some taps can do this and usually just need cleaning and greasing inside (assuming that it has washers and is not ceramic disc)

was the hot water ever drained out? sounds like an air lock. forcethe cold water from the mains back up the hot tap.

I had this problem once - hot water in the bathroom but not in the kitchen. It turned out that there was a small strainer fitted in the spout of the kitchen tap which had blocked up. This reduced the water flow through the diaphragm valve in the boiler sufficiently to prevent the microswitch from activating the burner.
