Heat exchanger '' to drain or not to drain''

I am removing the intercooler in the next week or so and thought perhaps I should drain down sea water tube stack well in advance to save time on the day of removal. Does the panel think that it's best to drain it on the day of removal or does it not matter?

What engine?? as soon as you remove the feed pipe it will drain itself into your bilge.

Hi Omega2 its a Mercruiser D tronic- my concern is whether the corrosion possibilities will increase if drained and left for a week or two

Not up on those,no idea, but have heard they tend to rust in some strange places. i.e the sump. Also anodes need to be checked on a regular basis.

Thanks Omega2 that is very useful but unfortunately the manual doesn't give any recommendations about whether leaving it drained for a period of time could be an issue. Has anybody out there got a view on this ?
