As a cruising sailor I go to Holland,France, Belgium & the Channel Islands quite a lot & now I have retired I will be spending a lot of time abroad. My yacht insurance covers items such a luggage, third party etc but not the cost pf health insurance.
When you look at policies there are some resrtictions. Ie Channel Islands & Isle of Man deleted. Some give loads of cover for air fares etc & as I go by yacht air fares & hotel bookings lost is irrelevant. Some policies are for fixed dates or a set 2 week period.
Is there a specific policy aimed at yachtsmen with varied travel & destinations, without the stuff already inc in the boat policy that does not break the bank.

I know we have the 311 form but I do not know how it works abroad- ie is it effective
Any comments, advice that does not break the bank for an over 65 sailor
 
Very few people bother with such insurance. In Europe the EHIC is adequate to cover most eventualities. You can get extended holiday type insurance, but it usually has restrictions that are essentially land based and they expect you to use EHIC facilities rather than private.

Contact Colemans ins brokers based in Poole.
They do " Sunseeker shield" policy ,Ok it's aimed at SS owners
They are flexible and broker with the big companies
But the point is this there is a big section on health ins abroad , not just you it included all crew+ guests ,

Assuming that you will remain a UK resident and given most of the areas that you plan to cruise ie North West EU, I suggest that the cover from the European Health Insurance Card is likely to be adequate for emergency care. The Channel Islands and IoM are more tricky these days. The belt and braces answer is a Pantaenius/Towergate Mariners Classic Policy or similar which can cover the world, but while I think that it is good value it does cost. A possible alternative is an "add-on" to your private UK medical insurance for cover abroad eg a policy from WPA of Taunton. The add-on tends to be cheap ie £40/50 pp pa but you do need a medical policy in the first place and the restrictions of your base policy apply but it could do the trick.

Blue Fin via the RYA- Health Insurance

we have Blue Fin from RYA website.
Worth a look for the worst poss situation cover-cas-evac or a stiff return home.
Also covers long voyages-30 or 45 days away any one trip if I recollect right-papers not to hand.

Premiums went up this year, too many aged RYA matelots keeling over abroad apparently:(

They also go up by age bands- SWMBO and I have seperate policies this year- as her Toyboy, I resent this:D
