I am remodelling the heads and wondering whether to use a caravan tip up basin or one which slides out on runners (I removed the one opposite the toilet to make a wet hanging area). The tip up ones all have very poor images on the vendor web sites and look a bit tacky. What does the panel think?

I saw a stainless steel tip up basin on a television programme about caravans. It looked to be very high quality but probably very expensive. I don't know where you would get one.

If you do not have much room in the heads, it's often better to forget about a seperate wash basin and use the one in the galley. Sliding and tipping ones are not much use I feel.

I'm not particularly fastidious but I draw the line at people washing their feet, privy parts and bums in the galley washbasin.

We compromise with a plastic bowl of water carried into the heads and used there.

I was only envisioning washing hands, face and teeth in the galley. I've never washed my feet or bum in my heads sink as I'm not a contortionist.

This looks ideal but I bet it costs an arm and a leg.

For the ultimate in luxury you can also get a portable bidet which sits inside the lavatory pan!

Luxury? Looks like something from a prison.

All I need is something for hand washing. I am one of those odd creatures who squirm when the see men leaving toilets with unwashed hands. Execution is the only punishment for them.

Ps - just seen this http://forum.woodenboat.com/showthread.php?93600-Folding-Sink

You can buy some stuff from the chemists for cleaning your hands without water. I can't remember what it's called.

I tried it once but it made my sandwiches taste funny.

Alcohol-based cleaning gel. Hospitals have bottles of it nailed all over the walls ever since MRSA hit the news.

A friend of mine is a nurse on a liver ward. In practice, "liver problems" tends to mean "lifelong alcoholic". She wasn't happy when all this cleaning gel appeared, as now she has to try to stop the inmates drinking the stuff.

How do you get the aforementioned parts of your anatomy into a sink?????

Surely that is what the shower is for

I have no idea, but now that they ARE fitted in houses and boats there is no need to continue the barbarism. :o

I only have 28 foot boat - where would I find room for a shower, and a big water tank? Also I'd need a pump and more electrics, so I'd have to fit a second battery.

Completely pointless - a waste of time and money.
