Hi,
Would anyone know of anyway to remove the ply roof panels on a Fairline Targa 33. I have removed the vinyl covering on the 1st panel and can see no fixings. It seems that they are bonded to timber battens from behind. I would like to retrim the panels in a similar way without putting in additional trims. As they are fixed it is impossible to tuck the edges. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know about your panels in particular but sometimes panels are put up with heavy duty Velcro.

Yep, that's what I'd expect too. My Targas 37 and 40 both had/have headliner panels held on with dual-lock. Ironically it's the glue on the back of the dual-lock that fails before the velcro itself gives up. To the OP - have you tried just firmly tugging a corner of a panel down? If you can't get any purchase on it, take a downlighter out and use the hole to get hold of the panel.

Yes I have tried pulling it down but panel will break if I pull it any harder. I have cut a small access whole to look behind and can see soft wood batten but no real sign of how it might be fixed.

I have thought about just cutting the 1st panel out using multi tool to trim around the edge and then replacing using new ply panel and refit using strong Velcro but not sure this will hold firm! As the panel has slight curve.

If you're ready to cut it out with a multi-tool you might as well have a go at pulling at the panel as hard as you can, you might be surprised. The 3m dual lock is extremely strong - it's used on my boat to hold a mirror on to the wall of the front cabin, for example, as well as all the headlining panels. If you do want/have to replace the panels just use really thin ply as per oe, it'll bend quite readily and the dual lock will definitely hold it. If you're really concerned about the curve you can use flexible ply - but I think you'll find that too bendy, if anything.

Hi....I did mine last winter ...will come back tomorrow night and explain ...mine were fixed with more screws than I could imagine necessary all hidden by the foam backing .....oh and a multi tool is the answer as the panels are put up before the cabinets....!!!

Some are fitted with a meal plate screwed to back of panel and you have to remove an end one first and work along in order, once you find which one to remove first the rest are straight forward.

Yes I would agree the cabinets were installed after the lining, as it goes under the wood panel. I have cut the vinyl tight to the wood panel and am thinking of cutting the ceiling panel with the multi tool and taking down in bits if necessary. I guess not an issue to replace a piece of ply. Would just like the vinyl to go back similar to original with neat tucked edges. If I remove in bits it should not cause any damage to timber stringers above. Thank you all for input.
