Time for the annual "who still does headlining" request as I really do need it done in the fore and aft cabins - (saloon is easy on ply boards), but I don't doing fancy the complex direct glued shapes in the fore cabin myself. I had a certain Norfolk based upholsterer look at the job who later declined the work, so any more recommendations would be welcomed.

(I am not going down the cork tile, pvc plank, or carpet route thanks)

Roger Nantais has a very good reputation for headlinings. He originally worked for Westerly and will travel almost anywhere including the Med. Not cheap, but a very good job done. I know of a number of satisfied customers. He is usually very busy and you may have to wait to get the job done - but worth it.

To be honest it can be a difficult job replacing headlining but I did my Fulmar forecabin on my own. It was messy, but not that difficult as I started with the shaped piece under the deck and coachroof, never having done this before. This shows what I did.

Thanks for that, but looking through earlier threads, it would seem Roger Nantais has retired.

Thanks K, but the stuff on boards I am happy to do, it’s the direct glued stuff I would rather sub out! Ralph didn’t seem keen to tackle it or would have cost a fortune.

As far as I'm aware R&N supply material but don't fit the stuff.

Lasr year, Alan Wyatt did the fore and aft cabins on Wild Thyme - looked great but some of the stuff on boards in the forecabin was coming off again by the end of the season. Spoke with Alan who said he had a similar problem on another boat. When he came to WT to fetch the problem panels, ne checked the aft cabin and took them too. Hopefully all will be well, by the spring.

Roger Nantais did a great job on my previous boat (Westerly Storm) but that was about 18 years ago. When I called him about last year's job he said he was only doing small local jobs nowadays - he lives in the New Forest. I also have bad experience of the Norfolk based upholsterer who pulled out of the job before starting work but after quoting and taking a 50% deposit. Despite my providing a bank statement and a copy of the transaction record for paying the deposit he denied havjng received it and it took over 6 months from him pulling out of the job and a lot of argument to get my money back. When Roger N quoted a much lower price, despite his distance from rhe boat at SYH, I was very happy to give him the job.

Peter.
