The foam backed headliner and internal hull wall liner are beginning to come adrift. The outer surface of the liner is ok its just the foam that has crumbled away. I would like to reuse the liner and wondered if there is a better product than foam to stick on the hull before recovering with existing covers.

you could reline with wood panels or foam board, but replacing the foam backed vinyl is pretty easy and not expensive. Don´t bother trying to reuse the original material, you will find it very hard to get a good bond between it and any new foam. If you stick the old vinyl straight onto the plywood backing boards you will see every lump and bump in the plywood magnified. Try Camper and Nicolson - they do a good selection and the correct glues etc. (don´t use evo stick or similar)

Foam board sounds like the right way to go. The original foam has completely disintegrated and falls off like dust. The original covering does have the odd bit of foam stuck to it but it is very easily removed and as I am working to a tight budget I will probably use that.

Thanks

Are you doing the job in Spain? If so I would be interested to see how you get on because I've got a similar problem. I'm happy to give you a hand if our dates coincide.

Thanks David for your kind offer. Dan from Covertec is giving me a quote tomorrow so hopefully he will get round to it over winter. I have taken down one bit and it looks like it going to be very messy. I think the heat here in Spain may have something to do with it. The previous owner had a stab at it using a spray on contact adhesive but the foam has broken down completely so no real sticking power.

We are here til 9 Sept so if you are around give us a call and I will show you the problem and let you know what Dan thinks.

We arrive on the 8th Sept so again we miss each other. Dan should be doing a little job for me over the next couple of weeks. Give him my regards and a nudge when you see him please!!
His fitting of my covers from my man in Cannock was superb (not as easy as it sounds)
Cheers
David
