Heading south

Heading nowhere would have been a better title, been sitting in Bayona a week now and there is not much sign of the wind direction changing for some time. Quite a few here now all waiting patiently. The rain is noticeably warmer so that's a plus another plus is the litre cartons of wine at 63 cents they should help the time pass

We did it just in time, boat now in Bruces Yard in Faro, where you aiming for? Passageweather.com and Xcweather gave us good indications. As I said before, look out for headlands wind acceleration at Figuera da Foz and Cascais!

Slow Down - Personally I wish I had spent a summer sailing Northern Spain instead of heading to Portugal for a bit more sun , the Rias we visited were amazing, the best port or town we went into along the Portuguese coast was Cascais in Lisbon - (Pilot book says its expensive, ignore tha andt go any way), we were forced to winter there due to family stuff, if I had the stamina or time Id go back there this winter too, but I have short supply of both.

I liked Bayona, spent 10 days there as my wife had to fly home to sort some stuff out. But it helped as it was the first time in Northern Spain we got a prolonged period of time without rain.

need more than just a raincoat its been lashing down and this is the third day of it can't venture anywhere without getting soaked. Got all the dhobying done with the lashing of freshwater from the sky, now the problem is drying it.
 
Ah...The rain..Its a very wet corner of Spain but looks like it will start to clear on Sunday .I always compare it to Ireland or the west coast of Scotland.Try in the town for a dry cleaners maybe they will put your stuff thru a dryer

Bumped into him a week ago here in Bayona, said he was going to push on south last Sunday or Monday not sure if he did or not though

I was there too sitting waiting for the rain to stop. I have pushed on now and am in Portugal but I am glad that I spent some time cruising the Spanish rias - so much more interesting than the Portugese coast so far. What's your cats name? I'll keep a look out for it. I'm in Sea Bear, wave if you see us.

Ah, I saw you there, a Vancouver right? I am in the blue prout that was anchored close in, Gemini Too is the name. We are now in Sines and looking to head for Porto Santo on Tuesday

Are you planning to do a long leg down to the Algarve?
I ask because although there is great cruising to be done in the Ria's of N Spain, the harbours on this coast close during the winter months due to strong on shore winds. I have to admit that we missed the joys of the Ria's and did a long leg from the CI's to w coast Fance then diagonal to La Courunia then down Portugal and rounded the corner to winter in Portimao. As long as you get round Cape St Vincent before the winter nasties set in you'll be ok.

No intention of hanging about forecast is good for trip to Porto Santos then Madeira, from there it will be La Palma in the Canaries, then I expect I shall really slow down. Maybe try the Algarve briefly on the return depending on how the winds blow
