Hi, is anybody else heading towards the Azores this May? I am sailing single handed form the Bristol Channel at the beginning of May, with a last stop in the Scillies around the 8th. If anybody else is going that way would be good to share stories!

Hello Marayna and welcome!

I hope to be heading South at the end of May, leaving Falmouth. I'm going single handed but planning to turn left into the Med.

What boat are you going in?

I'm intending to do a quick dash there and back (or as close as I can get in the allotted holiday time and/or weather conditions) as a warm up for the JC14, but the boat won't be ready until mid-June at the earliest. The cold weather and snow has almost stopped all the refurb and prepping work, so I am very behind with everything. If (big if at the moment) it's ready in time I might join in with the JBC and then go on from there, but until climatic conditions improve, it's all a bit of a moveable feast.

Yes, the weather has been awful! I am in Penarth marina at the moment having work done on the rigging, and we are two weeks behind. Being lifted out of the water for a week next week, hoping it will be warm enough to replace two seacocks and antifoul. I was going to do the work while neaped on the scrubbing posts in my normal mooring place, but the weather is so unreliable that I decided to part with money for the comfort of a proper yard!

I am normally based near Chepstow, and my plan is to leave early May for St Mary, where I will be around 10th of May. Going early because that is the only time it will fit in with family commitments, or I would have gone early June. My boat is a venerably old 26 foot long keel sloop, a Bowman 26 to be precise. Plan to take about 16 days from St Mary, spend a couple of weeks cruising the Azores and be back in early July.
Looks like our tracks might cross on my return leg!
