head gasket dilemma

Apologies

Three Bond is a range of sealing materials used originally by Japanese manufacturers however now adopted by most European and some U.S manufacturers.

Japanese engine manufacturing is to very precise standards which is why their engines work and ours (Hillman Imp) did not.

Thanks also understand TPA now from one of above posts

I just realised the Imp connection. !! I never had any real bother with the engines. Pretty perky for their day I reckon. Also remarkably easy to get out of the car by comparison with many other vehicles. Strange cam / rocker clearance shims but otherwise good free revving engines. My wife reckoned she could out run anything from the lights, for at least 100 yards! We used to keep a sack of sand in the front to keep the wheels on the road..

If Harry Munday and Walter Hassan had simply given Climax FW drawings to a Japanese company and left them to produce it would have been outstanding motor.

The Hillman Imp engine was made by Coventry (might have been Coventry Climax by then) as a lightweight (professional) water pump engine. We have the big boy heavy weight version in our boat that was used on many of the Green Goddess fire engines as the auxiliary pump engine.

OK, tell us ? :D is you boat big enough for an auxilliary fire pump??

Or are you using such as a prime mover?

Somewhere between impressed and plain curious!

Thank you. after running the engine under load for an hour with it running perfectly fine, no loss of coolant, no water (emulsification) in the engine oil.we have decided to leave well alone for now and probably replace the whole engine over winter. The Yanmar has 10,000 hours on the clock and is probably getting to the end of its economic life. We intend to keep her for a few years yet so replacing the engine will give us peace of mind. might just keep a bottle of K seal aboard just in case :disgust:
thanks again.
